croix bethune is the definition of heat
for every person claiming that women’s football is boring, all you need to do is mention the name croix bethune. She not only has been named nwsl rookie of the month multiple times, but also reached a record high assist count of 8 assists quicker than anyone else in league history.
here at fffc we define heat as the magical ability to make difficult things look easy while making everyone else wonder why they even bother trying… and bethune embodies every sense of the word. before being drafted third overall by the washington spirit prior to the 2024 nwsl season, croix played collegiately at both the university of southern california and the university of georgia. racking up accolades in her sleep, multiple time pac-12 player of the year and sec tournament mvp just to name a few.
Croix has played in all 16 matches of her rookie season and 1318 minutes of the season thus far. as of this past weekend she has tallied 5 goals and leads the league with 9 assists, and in my humble opinion i think there are going to be plenty more where that came from.
Croix’s most recent banger not only sealed the win for her team against the nwsl’s san deigo wave, but also sent her coaching staff and teammates into an absolute footy frenzy. Check it out.
if it is not obvious to you now that female football is the place to be, i am not really sure what to tell you. it seems only fitting that croix debuts our ‘sauce’ portion of fffc as the game’s newest it girl. we look forward to cheering her on in future nwsl matches and as a recently named alternate for the uswnt 2024 paris olympic roster. congrats croix! keep showing the world exactly what it means to play like a girl.
